Once again the small town of Brownsville, Oregon will be celebrating the filming of the classic movie Stand By Me on August 16th. In 1985 Brownsville was turned into a town named Castle Rock and was teaming with film crews, actors and all the excitement of the movie making process. Today, the movie is still regarded as a favorite and is listed as one of the top 250 American films of all time. A classic movie based on a novella by Stephen King and released in 1986, Stand by Me is a worldwide favorite.
This year's event will feature a vintage car cruise in, a sock hop in a historic Brownsville gym, locations set up around town with a viewing stand to show exact scene angles from the film, Hot Wheels races for kids and a number of 50's games to play including the hula hoop, jacks, marbles and special commemorative yo yo's for sale. Teen Challenge from Shedd will be conducting an amateur blueberry pie eating contest. Click here to register for the pie eating contest. The Brownsville Saloon (Irby's Billiards in the movie) will have karaoke and prizes for customers dressed in 50's costumes.
